Born in Taiwan, I immigrated to the US as a child. Before I could speak, creating was my way of connecting with others without language. I was the one called on to design the yearbook or T-shirt as “the artist” in school. So when I arrived in college, I eagerly enrolled in studio art classes, only to find little instruction in the fundamentals of representational painting. Without the mentorship or career vision, I pursued a career in medicine.

Emily Hughes (she/her) (b. 1999) is a Canadian artist and YouTube creator who currently resides in Montréal, Québec. Emily holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from OCAD University, with a specialization in Drawing and Painting. Emily paints primarily in gouache and oils. Her work is largely portraiture-based as she contemplates the human condition. Each work is an exploration of memories, dreams, and the ways in which they often overlap or become indiscernible. Patty Voje is an award-winning artist based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. A figurative painter, most of her work is “alla prima” – completed in one sitting. Her command of bold color and expressive brushwork mark her style. Patty has exhibited nationally and is the recipient of numerous accolades. She studied Fine Art at the University of Minnesota and at The Atelier of Minneapolis. She is proud to be a signature member of the Society of Animal Artists. Born and raised in the Midwest, Patty grew up on a small hobby farm where she had the good fortune to include pigs, sheep and the occasional chicken as members of the family. Her love of animals figures prominently in her art. Patty travels extensively for both pleasure and painting. Her summers are spent traveling for plein air events and teaching, stopping along the way whenever a field of cattle presents itself.

Artist, author, and instructor/creative coach. I have a diverse background as a visual communicator: Advertising and design, fine art, plein air (location painting), illustration (35 years) where I worked in almost every medium and style you can think of… except maybe egg tempera and marble. And I’ve made kind of an interesting discovery, the creative process behind all of these approaches is pretty much the same. As an instructor, I am taking my years of acquired knowledge from illustration, graphic design, location painting, teaching Critical thinking and the aforementioned topics and morphing them together in my work and in what I teach. I give people a way to access the creative spirit and broaden not just the way they paint but the way they think and play.
